Built with care
Sustainability is a central part of our project. Dansk Cottage is being built as an ecological wooden house and manages entirely without concrete in the foundation.
Instead of a classic concrete foundation, the house stands on a modern screw-pile foundation – this protects the natural soil while creating a stable, long-lasting base. For us, this way of building, the natural materials and the resource-saving construction are a perfect fit for a holiday home that blends as naturally as possible into the landscape of Ærø.
Our eye for conscious building suits Ærø itself well – the island is remarkably far ahead when it comes to the energy transition too:
On the Søby–Fynshav route – exactly the route that leads to Dansk Cottage – sails Ellen, the world's most powerful all-electric ferry. With a 4.3 MWh battery she carries up to 30 vehicles and 200 passengers and is charged in less than 25 minutes with electricity from local wind turbines. Every year she avoids around 2,000 tonnes of CO₂.
Discover ÆrøfærgerneBetween 1996 and 2012, a solar district heating plant with 33,300 m² of collector area was built in Marstal – for a time the largest solar district heating project in Europe. Around 55 % of the heat in the network comes from solar energy, and in summer the plant even covers the entire demand.
