Dansk Cottage combines modern holiday-home design with our personal passion for Danish and Scandinavian design.
For the interior we have deliberately chosen Scandinavian design of the finest quality. Classics and design icons by Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen and Alvar Aalto have their place just as much as the well-known dining chairs by Charles and Ray Eames. It is not about creating a design museum, but a homely, timeless and authentically Scandinavian atmosphere.
The Danish designer Ole Palsby is a very special personal source of inspiration for us. His approach to timeless, functional and understated design has accompanied us for many years. What many people don't know is that Ole Palsby was a close friend of the Floto family for more than three decades, right up until his death.
This long personal connection makes his influence on Dansk Cottage something very special to us. It isn't just about well-known shapes or design classics, but about an attitude to design, quality and everyday usability that we want to carry forward in our holiday home on Ærø.
Ole Palsby (1935–2010) was a self-taught Danish designer who became known above all for kitchen and household products for brands such as Rosendahl and Eva Solo – almost every second Danish household still owns at least one piece from his Eva Trio series. He found inspiration in Japan and in Zen thinking, among other things: integrity, resource-consciousness and nothing superfluous. His children Caroline and Mikkel Palsby continue his work to this day under the name Ole Palsby Design.
