Atelier Franziska Kurth – directly opposite Dansk Cottage

A very special tip right on your doorstep: directly opposite Dansk Cottage, on the other side of the road, is Franziska Kurth's tapestry weaving studio. Hand-woven tapestries and scarves in bold colours are made here – if you like, you can also get active yourself in a weaving course. A short walk is enough to drop in on our closest neighbour.

Ærø Bryggeri – the island's small brewery

Genuine island beer is brewed at Ærø Bryggeri – from the dark Dark Ale to the light Gylden. In the farm shop, which is open all year round, you can buy the various beers directly on site, and in summer the brewery garden and beer parlour invite you to linger. If you would like to learn more about brewing, you can take part in a beer tasting with an insight into the small speciality brewery.

Ærø Whisky – Danish whisky craftsmanship

Whisky with a character all of its own is also made on Ærø: the small distillery Ærø Whisky produces its varieties from local ingredients and matures them in oak casks – including the rare “Local Oak”, aged in the wood of a historic oak tree from Ærøskøbing. A lovely excursion destination for anyone who enjoys Danish craftsmanship and regional treats.

Kunsthøjskole på Ærø – right in Søby

Denmark's smallest folk high school is housed in a listed, thatched windmill from 1779 – just a few minutes from Dansk Cottage. Professional artists give painting and creative courses for adults all year round, often as multi-day workshops.

Ærø Soap Company – soap workshop & café in Bregninge

On the farm-shop grounds with a garden, pond and maze, Ærø Soap Company makes handmade natural soaps. The café serves cake, ice cream and coffee, the soap workshop can be visited on request – and children can shape their own soap from production leftovers.
