International wedding island
Ærø is known as an international wedding island – with its romantic old town, beaches and countryside it offers a very special setting for the big day.
The historic old town of Ærøskøbing, the Skjoldnæs lighthouse and the coastal landscape of Voderup Klint are among the most popular places for wedding ceremonies on Ærø. Local photographers, florists and wedding planners help with the preparations.
Most civil wedding ceremonies on Ærø take place in the historic town hall (Rådhus) in Ærøskøbing – the uncomplicated Danish marriage law has for years made the island a popular destination for couples from all over the world, even without Danish citizenship or residence. Ceremonies take place on weekdays, mostly Tuesday to Friday as well as on selected Saturdays. After the documents have been approved by the responsible Danish Family Law Agency (Familieretshuset), it usually takes about 7–8 weeks until the wedding date.
