For us, a good night's sleep is part of a perfect holiday. That is why we have deliberately made no compromises when it comes to the beds.
Cooking is part of a holiday for us. That is why Dansk Cottage does not have a typical holiday-home kitchen, but a high-quality, generously equipped one.
Dansk Cottage combines modern holiday-home design with our personal passion for Danish and Scandinavian design – inspired, among other things, by our long-standing personal connection to the Danish designer Ole Palsby.
Dansk Cottage is being built as an exclusive holiday home on the Danish island of Ærø, right in Søby – a new retreat for anyone who loves calm, nature, Scandinavian design and Denmark's distinctive way of life. On a 3,300 m² natural plot, our holiday home combines traditional Danish architecture with modern comfort.
Our holiday home is located in Søby on Ærø, one of Denmark's most beautiful islands, known for its unspoiled nature, picturesque harbours and charming villages. The address Skovbygade 4B, 5985 Søby, Denmark sits in a quiet, natural setting – ideal for a relaxing holiday on Ærø.

Dansk Cottage is being built here on a 3,300 m² natural plot.
On the spacious natural plot, a modern, single-storey timber house is taking shape, combining traditional Danish architecture with contemporary comfort. Clean lines, natural materials, plenty of wood, large window fronts and a pared-back Scandinavian interior define the character of our holiday home on Ærø.
With around 96 m² of living space, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, Dansk Cottage offers room for up to six guests – perfect for a family holiday or a getaway with friends on Ærø. The heart of the house is the open living, dining and kitchen area with large glass fronts and direct access to the spacious wooden terrace.
Since we are passionate cooks ourselves, the kitchen in our holiday home will hold a very special place. We are planning a highly modern, extensively equipped kitchen with numerous appliances and thoughtful details – a dream for any keen home cook.
We're not compromising on sleeping comfort either: all six sleeping places will be fitted with high-quality, ergonomic box-spring beds, guaranteeing a restful night's sleep after an eventful day on Ærø.
For the interior, we are deliberately choosing Scandinavian design at its finest. Classics and design icons by Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen and Alvar Aalto will find their place, as will the well-known dining chairs by Charles and Ray Eames. Our aim isn't to create a design museum, but a homely, timeless and authentically Scandinavian atmosphere – typical of a premium holiday home in Denmark.
Dansk Cottage is meant to be far more than a classic holiday home. It will be a place to arrive and unwind: coffee on the terrace in the morning, exploring the island of Ærø during the day, sitting by the fireplace or relaxing in the sauna in the evening – surrounded by calm and nature.
On the roughly 3,300 m² natural plot, a natural-style garden will take shape, along with fruit trees, wildflowers and herb beds. A barrel sauna with a panoramic window, generous terrace areas and various seating spots make life outdoors feel just as natural as life inside the house.
Modern mobility matters to us too: a wallbox right at the house lets our guests conveniently charge their electric car on site – another plus for a sustainable holiday on Ærø.
Sustainability is a central part of our project. Dansk Cottage is being built as an ecological timber house and does entirely without concrete for the foundation. Instead of a conventional concrete foundation, the house rests on a modern screw-pile foundation – protecting the natural ground while creating a stable, long-lasting base.
For us, this building method, the natural materials and the resource-conscious construction are the perfect fit for a holiday home meant to blend as naturally as possible into the landscape of Ærø.
The Danish designer Ole Palsby is a very special personal source of inspiration for us. His approach to timeless, functional and understated design has accompanied us for many years. What many people don't know is that Ole Palsby was a close friend of the Floto family for more than three decades, right up until his death.
This long personal connection makes his influence on Dansk Cottage something very special to us. It isn't just about well-known shapes or design classics, but about an attitude to design, quality and everyday usability that we want to carry forward in our holiday home on Ærø.
Dansk Cottage is not meant to be an "off-the-shelf" holiday home. It is taking shape step by step from many personal ideas, journeys, encounters and our long-standing connection to Denmark, and to Ærø in particular.
On this website, we'll be documenting the whole journey: from the natural plot and the screw-pile foundation, through the construction of the house, to choosing the kitchen, furniture, lighting, garden design and many small details.
And once everything is finished, we look forward to sharing this special holiday home on Ærø with our guests.
